Cultural Factors That Impact Listening Skills, presented by Julie Bell (EAL Consultant)
Listening is obviously a key skill in successful language acquisition. Culture can have an impact on the learner’s ability to hone these skills. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on listening and culture and will leave with strategies for helping learners to improve their listening skills, regardless of what cultural barriers may exists.
Julie Bell has been working with immigrants since 1995. She has taught in workplace EAL programs and community based language training. She has also been involved with many projects that support the successful integration of immigrants into the workplace and the community, including diversity training for management and newcomers.
